City of Kitchener seeks applications for 2025 Artist in Residence program
The City of Kitchener is inviting artists to apply for the 2025 Artist in Residence program. Kitchener’s Artist in Residence program is the oldest of its kind in Canada, encouraging artists to develop their practice or interests as they engage and collaborate with the community.
The 2025 residency is an experimental opportunity to develop and site a permanent public art installation at Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre (DPPCC) as part of the City’s public art program. The DPPCC is a neighbourhood hub with amenities that welcomes and serves more than 20,000 residents. It is located in what is forecasted to be the fastest-growing neighbourhood in Kitchener over the next 20 years with an established multicultural population who describe the neighbourhood as a great place to live and play. The final public art installation developed during the residency will aim to animate the DPPCC’s outdoor patio with a piece that is responsive to the space and its public use.
The selected artist or artist team will have the opportunity to collaborate with the community and members of the local arts sector as they advance their artistic practice. The City encourages applications from visual artists and highly encourages applications from individuals from equity deserving groups.
Interested artists have until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 1 to apply. Applications can be submitted through the City’s online form, in-person delivery or mail.
The City will be holding an optional information session to answer questions about the 2025 residency. The session will be held at the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre on March 13 from 7 to 8 p.m.
