City of Kitchener empowers young women to consider a career in emergency services with Female Firefighter in Training camp
The City of Kitchener announces the return of Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training), a camp designed to educate and empower young women (ages 15 -19) to explore a career in fire service. Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT is offered annually by the Kitchener Fire Department in partnership with Conestoga College Pre-Service Fire Program and Fire Service Women of Ontario.
This year, Camp FFIT will take place June 25 to June 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Centre in Waterloo. The four-day camp will give the participants hands-on experience in this physically and mentally demanding career, while developing emergency preparedness skills. All activities are led and supervised by qualified firefighters. Some of the training evolutions include search and rescue, fire communications, auto extrication, forcible entry, high angle rescue, hose deployment donning firefighter gear, and more.
A virtual information session will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. to learn more about the camp and the application requirements. To register, or for more information, email KFDFFP@Kitchener.ca.
Applications open on March 18 and will close on April 15 at 9 a.m. Interested applicants must meet application requirements including being in good physical condition, having a positive attitude, and following all safety rules.
