City of Kitchener celebrates National Volunteer Week 2025
Kitchener, Ontario – The City of Kitchener is proud to recognize and celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, from April 27 to May 3, as a chance to highlight the value of volunteers and their positive impact on our community. Each individual volunteer contribution, big or small, creates momentum and has the power to influence and inspire, joining a wave of positive change.
“Volunteers are the heartbeat of Kitchener, dedicating their time and energy to build stronger neighbourhoods, support local events, and make a lasting impact across our city. From helping with community gardens and clean-up projects to organizing special events and assisting in city programs, thousands of people bring our community together every day,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “Their contributions help shape a better future for all of us, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment and passion. Together, we are making Kitchener a place where everyone can thrive.”
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is ‘Volunteers Make Waves’, highlighting the power, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across our city and beyond. Volunteer actions ripple out to broader community benefits, like improved well-being, increased social cohesion and enhanced resilience in the face of change and uncertainty. The sharing of time, skills, empathy and creativity is vital to the inclusivity, strength and well-being of our communities. By coming together, committing support and increasing our collective efforts and impact, volunteers contribute exponentially to the quality of life we all strive for.
During National Volunteer Week 2025, we come together to recognize and celebrate all the ways volunteers make waves in Kitchener, for instance:
over 700 volunteers support City programs and committees, such as Bike Kitchener, adapted aquatics, winter rinks, and advisory committees
hundreds of volunteers support resident-led LoveMyHood initiatives across Kitchener neighbourhoods
the City works with 22 affiliated neighbourhood associations and more than 40 affiliated sports groups
countless volunteers across Kitchener help make our city a better place in many ways every day
