City of Kitchener cancels significant weather event as of 11:59 a.m. Mar. 5, 2025

Kitchener, Ontario - The City of Kitchener is cancelling the current significant weather event effective 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 5, 2025.

City crews have worked to clear roads and sidewalks to normal winter maintenance standards. Some residential roads may still be narrower than usual, and residents are reminded to continue exercising caution while traveling. Snow loading and road widening operations will continue as needed throughout the city to help clear catchbasins and widen remaining roads.

Once the significant weather event is lifted, there will be no street parking restrictions in place beyond those included in our typical parking bylaw. The bylaw does not permit street parking between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. from December 1 to March 31. Anyone wishing to park in a legal parking spot on a street overnight during that time will need to request a parking exemption. Learn more on our overnight parking exemptions page.

As weather conditions continue to change, there is a chance of localized water ponding on roads and sidewalks, which may become slippery when temperatures drop below freezing. Our ongoing road widening work will help clear catchbasins on roads, which will help drain water from streets and prevent pooling water. For tips on how you can manage the melt around your home, visit ourstormwater page.

Crews are now focusing more heavily on repairing potholes on city streets. This time of year is often when we’ll start to see more potholes as temperature changes impact the asphalt on our roads. As we've been working to clear snow across the city after our unprecedented snowfall, it has taken us longer to repair potholes. As the weather warms up, we are committing more resources to repair potholes across the community. We will continue to monitor and assess potholes on our streets and prioritize repairs based on the highest need. We record every reported pothole and will address them as part of our ongoing maintenance program. To learn more and report a pothole, visitourpotholes page.

This unprecedented snowfall is something our community has weathered together. We appreciate your patience during the cleanup from February’s snowfall, your help keeping streets clear of cars to support snow clearing operations, and your work to keep sidewalks in front of your homes and properties clear of snow and ice so our community could remain safe for travel.
