City of Kitchener announces plan for citywide active transportation Route 2

Kitchener’s growing network of connected active transportation routes allows residents to safely walk, roll or bike across the city. Work has begun on Route 2, which will connect Stanley Park, Downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo. Based on community feedback, the route has been extended to include the Spurline Trail between Downtown and Uptown. Major destinations along the proposed route include the Dom Cardillo Trail, Stanley Park Mall and GRT Station, Centre in the Square, Kitchener GO/VIA Station and the Spurline Trail.

The proposed Route 2 will feature consistent wayfinding throughout, along with upgrades to the Expressway Trail, sections of the Dom Cardillo Trail and Spurline Trail crossings.

We’re looking for your feedback to help identify location specific improvements that could enhance safety, comfort and clarity for all users. Residents are also encouraged to share areas where the route may be confusing so staff can refine wayfinding.

Visit the project’s Engage Kitchener page to learn more. Feedback will be accepted until Saturday, January 31.

Developing city-wide active transportation routes is a key action in the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, to connect neighbourhoods through holistic trail and bike route enhancements.
