Celebrate cycling downtown with Bike Day in DTK

Kitchener, Ontario – Come celebrate cycling and our vibrant downtown at Bike Day in DTK on Saturday, June 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. on Water Street between King and Charles Streets. The event is for both beginner and experienced cyclists, with activities for all ages and abilities.

The event will take place across the downtown cycling grid, which uses physical barriers to separate cycling and vehicle traffic, making it safe, comfortable and convenient for people of all ages and abilities to bike. The network connects popular trails like the Iron Horse Trail, Spur Line Trail and the Trans Canada Trail, creating a new way for people to get downtown.

“I invite everyone to join us for Bike Day in DTK,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “It will be a great afternoon of activities, encouraging residents and visitors of all ages and abilities to discover that cycling is a fun, safe and affordable way to explore everything Downtown Kitchener and our entire community has to offer on a beautiful spring day.”

The event will feature:

  • Learn to ride sessions for new or beginning cyclists – with a chance to win a brand-new bike from Ziggy’s Cycle

  • Family-friendly Bike scavenger hunts

  • Themed bike rides

  • Free basic bike tune-ups

  • Bike safety education

  • Street party vibe

  • Prizes

  • And more

Ride on your own or with a small group, going up, down and across the grid and surrounding neighbourhoods, before and after visiting the main hub of activities on Water Street.

“I’m pleased to see our trail and active transportation network expanding,” said Ward 9 Councillor Debbie Chapman. “I also look forward to our upcoming ‘major trails’ that will connect neighbourhoods to the downtown and across the city, starting with The Boardwalk – Downtown this fall, making walking, rolling and cycling an easy choice for residents.”
