Active transportation connections are coming to Rockway-Fairway neighbourhoods

The City of Kitchener is planning to connect the existing trail network to transit, jobs and services with the completion of two gaps in a route connecting Downtown Kitchener to the Rockway, Fairway/Vanier neighbourhoods and the Trillium Industrial Area.

The proposed upgrades include all ages and abilities walking, rolling and cycling facilities on Floral Crescent, Dixon Street, Eckert Street and Wilson Avenue. These connections will improve access to three ION LRT stations, including Fairway Station and the 13 bus routes that connect there. Once complete, the upgrades will link the Iron Horse Trail to the TransCanada Trail south of Wilson Avenue with eventual connections to Conestoga College.

This corridor was identified as a top priority in the Cycling and Trails Master Plan, which was supported by feedback from over 3,000 residents. It’s also part of the City’s Strategic Plan to build city-wide active transportation routes that connect major neighbourhoods with transit, jobs, services, and downtown.
