Victoria Park Master Plan outlines a roadmap for the future of Victoria Park

Kitchener City Council has approved the Victoria Park Master Plan, a 10-year roadmap that will guide how Victoria Park is improved, maintained and operated to meet the needs of current and future generations. The plan is informed by extensive technical analysis and community engagement, including feedback from thousands of residents and park users.

Established in 1896, Victoria Park is a cherished gathering place for recreation, community events, cultural celebration, and connection with nature, fostering stewardship of this beautiful park at the heart of the city.

The approved Master Plan includes 32 recommendations focused on protecting the park’s historic character while enhancing accessibility, park infrastructure and visitor experiences. The Master Plan establishes near-term projects that are fully funded through existing forecast budgets, as well as longer-term projects to be incorporated into capital planning and budget processes over the next 10 years.

Key recommendations for near-term projects include:

  • Replacing the former picnic shelter and improving park electrical infrastructure.

  • Upgrading the playground surfacing and play areas with a focus on accessibility and inclusive play opportunities.

  • Updating and relocating the basketball court.

  • Improving trails, pathways, and active transportation connections throughout the park.

  • Ongoing data collection to inform future capital work.

Additional recommendations that are prioritized within the longer-term scope of work will include projects such as:

  • Upgrading the splashpad to integrate with new playground updates.

  • Advancing Indigenous connection, placemaking and gathering opportunities within the park.

  • Supporting improvements related to event accommodation, drinking water access, public art, parking, tree canopy management, waste management, and geese management.
