Temporary fire ban in Kitchener
Kitchener, ON – The City of Kitchener has enacted a temporary fire ban as of August 8, 2025 at 4 p.m.
Backyard fires and open burns are not permitted due to current dry conditions and no significant rainfall forecast. No new open burn permits will be issued or approved until further notice. Unauthorized fires can create serious safety risks to Kitchener residents and may result in fines and other charges under City by-law and the Ontario Fire Code.
The decision follows a series of discussions with Fire Chiefs from across the region to develop a coordinated approach to prioritize public safety.
The fire ban will stay in effect until further notice.
