Take a look behind the scenes of public works at Kitchener’s Open House and Family Fun Night
All year round, City staff work behind the scenes to maintain roads and sidewalks, deliver power to homes, keep parks and natural areas healthy, and so much more. On Wednesday, May 20, we’re giving residents an insider look at how we keep the city running during our annual Public Works Week Open House and Family Fun Night.
Join us at the Kitchener Operations Facility (131 Goodrich Dr., Kitchener) on Wednesday, May 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. to enjoy free family-friendly activities, including:
- See equipment like plows, excavators, electric vehicles and forestry trucks up close
- Test your skills on an equipment simulator
- Try hands-on public works activities guided by City staff
- Meet the people who keep our city running and learn about careers in public works
- Test your speed with our speed measuring device
- Play public works-themed games
- Buy dinner or a treat from a local food truck
- And more!
The Open House and Family Fun Night is part of Kitchener’s celebration for National Public Works Week, which recognizes the important roles public works professionals play in supporting our communities. This year's theme “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” acknowledges that the roots of service run deep in public works and that, together, public works professionals form the foundation of thriving communities.
