Statement from Mayor Vrbanovic on Tumbler Ridge High School

On behalf of our City of Kitchener community, we are heartbroken by the violence and loss of life in the District of Tumbler Ridge, BC yesterday.

We extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted, including those who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured, the students and staff at Tumbler Ridge High School, and the wider British Columbia community.

In the coming days, we stand #TumblerRidgeStrong, united in compassion and love as a Canadian family of cities and communities, especially during these moments of sorrow and grief.

A special acknowledgement goes out to the BC Royal Canadian Mounted Police, all first responders and health care workers who are working to support the community, as well as Mayor Darryl Krakowka and community leaders who are supporting their community at this time.

As a symbol of our support and solidarity for the people of the District of Tumbler Ridge, the City of Kitchener has lowered its flags at Kitchener City Hall in memory of the victims of this tragedy.
