More vendors return to Kitchener Market this Saturday

Kitchener, ON – Residents will have even more opportunities to shop local this Saturday as additional vendors return to the Kitchener Market, marking another milestone in the Market's recovery. Visitors can expect an expanded lineup of farmers, food producers and local businesses while restoration work continues inside the Market building.

The Kitchener Market has remained open every Saturday since the July fire, providing customers with access to local food and products while vendors continue serving the community. Investments in temporary electrical, plumbing and water infrastructure have expanded operations into the breezeway and parking lot of the building, making it possible for more vendors to return quickly and safely. This investment in temporary infrastructure is creating additional shopping options for residents and supporting business continuity while restoration work continues. The City is proactively preparing the space for colder weather to support continued market operations through the fall and winter months, so vendors can continue serving customers comfortably while restoration work continues.

"The resilience shown by our vendors throughout this recovery has been remarkable," said Councillor Stephanie Stretch. "Despite challenging circumstances, vendors have continued to adapt, serve customers and support one another. Their resilience is a testament to the strength of the Market community. Now more than ever, choosing to shop locally makes a meaningful difference for the small businesses that help make Kitchener the vibrant city that it is."

For more than 155 years, the Market has connected residents with local farmers, entrepreneurs and food producers. Every purchase made at the Market helps support local jobs, local families and the local economy. The Kitchener Market remains a vital community hub where residents can connect directly with the people who grow, raise, bake and make products close to home.

Restoration work is underway and the City remains focused on maintaining market operations while working toward welcoming vendors and visitors back inside the Market building as soon as it is safe to do so.
