Last day to become a 2026 municipal election candidate is August 21
The deadline for candidates interested in running in the 2026 municipal and school board election to file their nomination is Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m.
The City’s website highlights eligibility requirements for who can run for office, elected offices and qualifications, details on filing fees and the nomination process, and helpful resources for becoming a candidate including a candidate's guide and checklist. Nomination appointments still available
The City of Kitchener is making it easy for candidates interested in running in the 2026 municipal and school board election to file their nomination documents by offering appointments where staff will review nomination paperwork and share details on the election process.
Appointments can be booked online at KitchenerVotes.ca and will be offered in person at the City’s corporate contact centre. One-hour appointments are available Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The last day to book an appointment is Thursday, August 20, 2026. Nominations will be accepted by walk-in only on Friday, August 21, 2026.
