Kitchener Fire Department: Major incident report – March 24, 2026 (King Street West)

This evening, Kitchener Fire crews responded to an apartment fire at King Street West. The call came in at approximately 6:15 p.m. The three-storey building includes a vacant commercial unit on the main floor and residential units on the second and third floors. Six trucks attended the scene. The fire has been extinguished and crews are ventilating the building due to heavy smoke conditions.

King Street West is currently closed between Queen Street and Ontario Street.

The fire was accidental and was contained to the contents within one apartment unit. There is no structural damage to the building.

Six residents were evacuated from the building and one resident will be displaced. There are no resident or firefighter injuries to report at this time.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious. Damage estimates are approximately $50,000.
