Kitchener Fire Department: Major incident report – January 22, 2026

Late this afternoon, fire crews responded with five trucks to a house fire at Calais Place. The home is a semi‑detached, split‑level residence consisting of four levels.

The fire was contained to the lower two levels of the home and did not breach into the adjacent semi‑detached unit. Early indications suggest the fire started in the basement.

Two owner‑occupants were home at the time of the fire. One occupant has been transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. There are no firefighter injuries, and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

The scene is currently being held by Kitchener Fire crews. An investigation into the cause will be conducted by KFD Fire Prevention staff tomorrow.

There are structural damage concerns, including damage to floor joists. Damage estimates are approximately $250,000.
