Kitchener recognized as 2026 Municipality of the Year by Festivals & Events Ontario 

The City of Kitchener has been named 2026 Municipality of the Year by Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) and received Top 100 Events in Ontario awards for KidsPark and Christkindl Market. Presented at FEO’s annual Awards Gala on February 25, the honours recognize Kitchener’s commitment to vibrant community events, strong partnerships, and creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors.  

The awards highlight the City’s growing slate of signature festivals and its collaborative approach to supporting both City‑led and community‑driven events.

Council approves Kitchener’s first Municipal Newcomer Strategy 

Kitchener City Council has approved the City’s first‑ever Municipal Newcomer Strategy, a three‑year plan designed to improve newcomers’ access to City services and supports while strengthening economic participation, community belonging, and inclusion. 

Shaped through extensive engagement with more than 1,000 newcomer voices and collaboration with over 25 community organizations, the strategy recognizes newcomers as a vital part of Kitchener’s growth, workforce, and long‑term economic sustainability. It outlines coordinated actions to help newcomer residents connect more easily with City services, build relationships, participate fully in community life, and access targeted supports that strengthen their economic participation.

City Council approves Digital Kitchener 2.0 strategy 

Kitchener City Council has approved Digital Kitchener 2.0, a refreshed strategy that will guide the City’s digital initiatives, priorities, and investments from 2026 to 2030. The strategy is shaped by extensive community and stakeholder engagement and focuses on collaboration, accessibility, and innovation, ensuring that digital services are efficient, inclusive, and guided by community voices.   

The approved strategy will inform future digital projects and investments through the City’s regular budget process.
