Joint Statement from the City of Kitchener and Caribana Arts Group Regarding the 2026 Caribana Ignite Festival

Recent organizational changes and the time required to successfully plan and deliver a major cultural festival have made it clear that additional preparation time is needed to ensure the event meets the expectations of the community and participants. 

“Caribana Ignite has always been about celebrating Caribbean culture, community and creativity. While we are disappointed not to move forward in 2026, we believe this pause will allow us to strengthen our organization and build a solid foundation for future success. We remain committed to bringing this celebration back and working alongside our community partners to ensure its long-term success,” said Quammie Williams, Interim Board Chair, Caribana Arts Group. 

 The City of Kitchener remains committed to celebrating and supporting Caribbean cultural expression and the rich cultural diversity that helps make Kitchener a vibrant and welcoming community. 

 Steve Roth, Manager of Special Events, City of Kitchener, said the City is disappointed that the festival will not move forward in 2026 but supports the decision to take the time needed to strengthen the City of Kitchener / Caribana Arts Group partnership and plan for future success. 

"The City of Kitchener values its partnership with Caribana Arts Group and looks forward to continuing conversations and exploring opportunities to welcome this celebration back in the years ahead."
