Help Shape the Future of Transportation in Kitchener
Should Kitchener invest more in safer walking and cycling connections? Improve transit reliability? Target traffic pinch points?
These are some of the key recommendations emerging from the City's draft Transportation and Mobility Plan and now residents are being asked if we're on the right track.
The way we move through our neighbourhoods and across our city plays an important role in our quality of life. Whether walking, cycling, taking transit or driving, the infrastructure we plan and build has a direct impact on safety, accessibility and how connected we feel to our community.
The City of Kitchener is committed to creating a Connected City, guided by our vision of building a city for everyone where, together, we take care of the world around us - and each other.
To help achieve that vision, the City launched Connected Kitchener to develop a new Transportation and Mobility Plan. The plan is designed to ensure Kitchener's transportation network continues to meet the needs of residents today while preparing for the future.
More than 600 residents have already shared their experiences, challenges and ideas for getting around Kitchener. Based on that feedback, the City has developed draft recommendations that focus on:
- Creating safer and more connected walking and cycling routes
- Improving the reliability of public transit on city streets
- Supporting the efficient movement of people and goods
- Fixing safety challenges through a Vision Zero approach
- Creating better public spaces on city streets
As the project enters its next phase, the City is looking for residents to review these recommendations and help identify what matters most when it comes to moving around the community.
Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan recommendations and complete the online survey at https://www.engagewr.ca/ConnectedKitchener
While the Transportation and Mobility Plan focuses on areas under the City of Kitchener's responsibility, it will also align closely with the Region of Waterloo's transportation initiatives. By working together, both levels of government can advance shared goals and create a more coordinated transportation network for the community.
Building an integrated mobility system that supports the movement of both people and goods is essential to creating a connected, healthy and inclusive city. Community feedback will help shape the final plan and ensure it reflects the needs and priorities of Kitchener residents for years to come.
