Help bring outdoor skating to three new Kitchener neighbourhood rinks this winter

The City of Kitchener is expanding its outdoor winter rink program for the 2026–2027 season, with three new neighbourhood rink locations, bringing the total to nearly 30 across Kitchener. Volunteer Winter Rink Coordinators and General Volunteers are needed to help bring these community spaces to life and keep Kitchener skating this winter.

Three new neighbourhood rink locations

The City is looking for volunteer Winter Rink Coordinators and General Volunteers to support three of the following new locations:

Winter Rink Coordinators are also needed at select existing neighbourhood rink locations across the city.

Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or looking for a new way to get involved, this is an opportunity to take a leadership role in your neighbourhood and help create a welcoming space for the community to enjoy.

Take the lead in your neighbourhood

Winter Rink Coordinators play an important role in keeping outdoor rinks operating throughout the season. As a coordinator, you’ll lead a team of local volunteers and serve as the main point of contact between your neighbourhood rink and the City of Kitchener.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating volunteers and overseeing daily rink operations.
  • Supporting ice flooding, snow removal and general rink maintenance.
  • Managing rink supplies and funds.
  • Sharing important updates between the City and rink volunteers.
  • Helping create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable space for neighbourhood skating.

Who can become a Winter Rink Coordinator?

Winter Rink Coordinators should:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Live in the neighbourhood of the rink.
  • Be comfortable working independently outdoors.
  • Be able to perform physical tasks, including lifting and bending.
  • Be available early in the morning or late at night, as needed.

Residents who want to get involved but are unable to take on a coordinator role can also support their neighbourhood rink as General Volunteers. Locations, like Greengable Park, are a great example of where extra volunteer support can make a big difference.
