Have your say on voting methods for the 2022 municipal election

The City of Kitchener is reviewing alternative voting methods for the 2022 municipal and school board elections. A new online survey asks residents how they would like to cast their votes in 2022, with options for paper ballots, mail-in ballots, voting online, or voting by phone.

The survey is an opportunity to find out how residents feel about alternative voting methods. The survey is also looking for feedback on the previous municipal election experience. The goal is to make voting easier for residents and ensure flexibility for any future COVID-19 restrictions.

All voting methods are required under the municipal act to maintain individual vote secrecy, be accessible to all voters and treat voters and candidates fairly and consistently.

The survey is open until August 31, 2021. Staff will report on the survey results and make recommendations to Council this fall. Click here to participate: https://www.engagewr.ca/yourvote
