City of Kitchener welcomes cricket net partner to Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park

The City of Kitchener is pleased to welcome another community partner to the Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park.  

Grow with Nav Inc., a Kitchener based mortgage brokerage, will contribute $100,000 over ten years to sponsor the centre’s newly named ‘Grow Nation Cricket Nets’. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to growing sport opportunities and supporting community connections across Kitchener.

Together with the outdoor cricket amenities at RBJ Schlegel Park, these new indoor nets will help establish the park as a year-round destination for cricket, expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy one of Kitchener’s fastest-growing sports. 

The Grow Nation Cricket Nets are the City of Kitchener’s first municipally owned and operated indoor cricket practice nets, featuring an 18-metre lane equipped with a bowling machine for focused skill development, and a 38-metre lane designed for both bowlers and batters to train at full length.  

Located within the Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park, the Grow Nation Cricket Nets enhance a state-of-the-art recreation facility designed to support inclusive, diverse and accessible sport and wellness opportunities. Through its wide range of amenities and programming, the facility will serve residents of all ages and abilities while supporting the growth and development of more than 30 local sport organizations. 

“Cricket is part of who I am,” says Navjot Bindra, Founder of Grow With Nav Inc. “I grew up with the sport, and now I get to watch my son pick up a bat in the same city where we're building our life. Sponsoring the cricket nets is about giving Kitchener's kids and families a place to play the game they love, without leaving the city. For me, this is what growing with your community looks like.” 

The Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park is scheduled to open late this year. Projected to attract 10,000 visits in the first year, the cricket nets will be available for booking online later this year and will operate from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week.
