City of Kitchener certifies candidates for the 2026 municipal election

Kitchener, ON – With the close of the nomination period on Friday, August 21, today the City of Kitchener has certified all candidates that are eligible for mayor and ward councillor in Kitchener, as well as candidates eligible to run for the Waterloo Region District School Board (Kitchener Trustee), and Waterloo Catholic District School Board (Kitchener-Wilmot Trustee).

Regional Councillor candidates have been certified by the Region of Waterloo.

Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French public) candidates have been certified by the City of London. With only one candidate, the office has been acclaimed for Rachid Barrima.

Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French separate) candidates have been certified by the City of Kitchener. With only one candidate, the office has been acclaimed for Dorothée Petit-Pas.

Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026.

The candidates you vote for on election day will represent Kitchener residents at City Council, Regional Council and the school boards and make important decisions that shape everyday life. From community centres, parks and roads to regional services and local schools. Residents can help shape the future of their community by casting their ballot on October 26.
