Walter Bean Grand River Trail

Not far from the hustle and bustle of the city, you'll find a piece of paradise: the Walter Bean Grand River Trail.

The trail is named in honour of Walter Bean, a local business and community leader, who inspired the vision of creating a continuous pathway along the Grand River and through Waterloo Region - one that can be easily accessed and enjoyed by everyone, from hikers and bikers in the summer to cross-country skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts in the winter.

Running through Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Woolwich and North Dumfries, this safe, wide trail offers easy access to more than 25 per cent of the Grand River's watershed.

Our own Doon Valley Golf Course houses a piece of the trail, featuring a 75-metre, award-winning pedestrian bridge that links communities on both sides of the Grand River. This part of the trail is not maintained in the winter, but it is open year-round for your enjoyment.

To date, all construction costs for the trail have been funded through public donations, ensuring Walter Bean's legacy remains an educational, environmental and recreational heritage resource for generations to come.
