Community centres have reopened for select programs

The Region of Waterloo passed a bylaw requiring the wearing of face coverings in enclosed public spaces that is now in effect. You can learn more about the bylaw and what it means for you on the Region of Waterloo site.

Beginning Friday, Nov. 27, the Province has provided updated guidance on the limits for recreation facilities and community centres. These changes include:

  • Indoor capacity of 10 program participants per room/space, provided physical distancing can be maintained. 
  • Outdoor capacity of 25 program participants per space, provided physical distancing can be maintained.

Stanley Park Community Centre has reopened for registered programs only.

Stanley Park Community Centre, located at 505 Franklin St. N., has been serving the surrounding community since 2005. Featuring a triple gymnasium and three program rooms, the centre is equipped to offer a wide range of programs and activities.

All programming, including drop-in programming now requires registration. To register for programs, please visit ACTIVE Net.

Safety measures 
Residents can expect a different experience when visiting as the following safety measures remain in effect:
  • Access control: Public access will be controlled and limited to patrons who are registered for programs or have scheduled activities such as the use of public access computers or use of the gymnasium through the Book your Bubble program. Visitors are asked to come prepared to participate in scheduled programming as access to changerooms will be unavailable.
  • Pre-screening questions: Visitors will be required to successfully complete a series of health screening questions prior to entry.
  • Masks and face coverings: Visitors are required to wear masks upon entry and while in common areas such as lobbies, hallways or washrooms.
  • Physical distancing: Visitors are always required to maintain a physical distance of at least 2-meters from other patrons.

Residents are asked to come prepared to participate in scheduled programming as access to washrooms is limited and changerooms will be unavailable.

  • Infant Series Programs - The infant series is for parents and babies up to 12 months old and includes: Infant Massage (parents learn how to massage their babies), Baby Connections (focus on building early literacy skills through songs, rhymes and books) and Baby and Me (come together to learn songs, rhymes and finger play).  Provided by Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre.
  • Get Set Learn Program - Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. (fall and spring session only) For parents with young children (babies to preschoolers).  This fun, free program includes learning together with you child as well as parent-only time.  In partnership with Project Read Literacy Network.
  • Stork Secrets - Pregnancy and Postpartum Adjustment Support - Are you pregnant or a mother of a child under 2? Are you feeling nervous, anxious, or overwhelmed? Have you been diagnosed with postpartum mood disorder? Are you looking for support?  Connect with others who are experiencing similar feelings.  Ask questions, discuss coping strategies, develop friendships, learn about other services in the community and strengthen connections with your baby.  Provided by Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre.  
Book your Bubble Program
With the Book your Bubble program, residents can pre-book time to use a community centre gym for physical activity with their household of up to 10 people. Booking gym time is free and bookings for each 45-minute time slot can be made online, in-person or by calling the centre. 

The Gymnasium time can only be used for recreational activity only. Team practices or individual coaching is not permitted.

Please note: The name and phone number of the main contact will be collected for tracking purposes.  The booker must be 18 years or older and the booking must have a minimum of 1 adult in the gym for use with under people under 16 years.  Users are required to bring their own recreational equipment. Staff will sweep and clean gym after each user group. 

 

 Safety for Book your Bubble participants
  • Users will be screened by community centre staff upon entry.
  • If all users pass the initial screening, they will be required to sanitize their hands and wear a mask or face covering while inside the main building.  
  • Participants will come dressed and ready to use the gym as washrooms and changerooms are unavailable. Please note, outdoor shoes are not permitted in the gym 
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own water. The community centre’s water fountain can be made available to refill reusable bottles only.  No other outside food or drink is permitted in the centre at this time.
  • Masks will not be required during gym-time. Users will have 45-minutes to use the gym space. Once your time has finished, participants must wear their mask or face covering to exit the building through the designated exit door(s).

Conveniently located off the expressway (Highway 7/8), Stanley Park Community Centre offers amenities and services to meet your event needs.

In addition to its inviting lobby, three meeting rooms and triple gymnasium, the centre features a full kitchen and bar serving area with sinks and counters in each room.
