SHARE support services

Older adults going through difficult times don't have to suffer alone. Our peer helpers are here to help.

Peer helpers are trained older-adult volunteers, who:

  • Provide one-to-one support for older adults going through tough times,
  • Offer information seminars on issues of interest to older adults, and
  • Facilitate support groups.

Our helpers complete a 30-hour training session, which focuses on communication skills and understanding the issues of aging.

Support groups

Peer helpers also facilitate the following support groups:

Caregiver support

The caregiver support group provides assistance and encouragement to primary caregivers. The group meets every five weeks at Rockway Centre to explore common difficulties and experiences in being a primary caregiver. Support is available from experienced facilitators, staff and community links.
