Dog parks

The City of Kitchener is home to several leash-free dog parks. In these fenced in areas, your dog has the space it needs to run around.

Outside of designated leash-free areas, we ask that you keep your dog on its leash. This includes the walk to and from the dog parks. While in the dog park, please keep your dog within line of sight and under verbal control. You can find dog park rules in the accordion at the bottom of this page.

Kiwanis Park

Kiwanis Park features a dog park approximately a 20 minute walk from the parking lot and is accessible by a path. There are two leash-free areas next to each other for your dog based on its size. Read the signs to find the appropriate area for your dog and ensure that it’s on a leash until you enter the designated dog park.

 Dog park rules

Dogs can be unpredictable. The City of Kitchener cannot guarantee that interaction with unfamiliar dogs within the premises will be safe. Because of this inherent risk, usage of off-leash parks is done at the visitor’s own risk.

Follow these rules to keep our dog parks safe for everyone to use:

  • Dogs must be accompanied by a responsible individual at least 16 years of age at all times, and must keep their dog within line of sight and under verbal control.
  • Adult supervision is required for children between the ages of six and 15.
  • Children under the age of six are not permitted within the off-leash dog park.
  • Owners cannot bring more than two dogs at one time to the dog park.
  • All dogs must have a municipal dog license and current rabies vaccinations with tags worn.
  • Stoop 'n scoop is mandatory. All owners must clean up after their dogs and place fecal matter in the designated containers.
  • No business including professional dog trainers may use the dog park to conduct their business.
  • Pinch (prong) and spike collars are not permitted.
  • Aggressive dogs are not allowed. If a dog starts acting aggressively, it must be removed from the dog park immediately. Dogs that have previously bitten or injured a person or another animal are not permitted.
  • Dogs over the age of seven months must be spayed or neutered.
  • Dogs in heat, puppies under 12 weeks old and sick dogs are not permitted.
  • Toys, food and glass containers are not permitted.
  • If a dog digs a hole, it is the responsibility of the owner to fill it before departing from the park.

Help keep Kitchener’s off-leash dog parks safe for everyone by abiding by the rules above. If you see visitors breaking the rules, please report your observations to our Corporate Contact Centre by calling  519-741-2345.
