BYLD Program

Working with children in summer programs is a great way for youth to build their own leadership skills, responsibility and self confidence. Fittingly, our BYLD program (pronounced 'build') offers this type of opportunity to local young people from ages 13 to 15.

Through BYLD, which stands for 'building youth leadership development,' you can learn about:

  • general leadership skills
  • communication
  • program planning
  • team-building skills
  • disability awareness
  • conflict resolution skills
  • inclusion
  • resource development (e.g. games, songs, crafts, activities)

BYLD can also help you obtain your required high-school community service hours*, while gaining knowledge and transferable skills that will benefit you for years to come. Employers look for programs like BYLD on resumes when hiring young people - another great reason to consider making our program part of your summer plans.

*Most BYLD participants complete 40 hours of work during their placements with us. Training time does not count toward high-school volunteer hours.
