About the grant program

We offered grants for rent subsidies to support performing arts individuals and groups. This grant program was intended to help local performing arts organizations who want to rent the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts (CCPA) for the purposes of hosting live performances that are open to the general public to attend.

Eligible costs

This grant program was available for performances at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts (CCPA), a facility that is owned by the City of Kitchener and stewarded by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (KWS).

Eligible costs include rental fees for the facility, which are charged by the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony (KWS).

Ineligible costs

Ineligible costs include any expense the organization incurs to produce a performance. Ineligible costs include but are not limited to:

  • artist fees
  • management costs
  • presenting costs
  • ticketing fees not associated with KWS
  • wardrobe
  • set production
  • extra sound or light equipment
  • any staffing costs associated with the organization
  • marketing

Applicants will be responsible for all extra costs associated with the use of the venue including:

  • concessions staff
  • head ushers
  • door staff
  • equipment rental
  • capital reserve fees
  • SOCAN
  • extra cleaning

Eligibility requirements

Only applicants that meet these requirements were eligible to receive a grant:

  • all applications for grants under this program are subject to the availability of funding. The provision of any grant funding will be considered on a first come first served basis
  • applicants must be a performing artist or performing arts organization based in Waterloo Region
  • for a booking to be eligible for this grant, the majority of artists, performers and technical staff must live and/or work in Waterloo Region
  • only bookings that result in performances that are open to the general public to attend shall be considered
  • applications must be received at least 6-weeks prior to the start of the rental
  • applicants must be able to provide proof of insurance naming the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra Association Inc. as additional insured in an amount determined by the City of Kitchener and/or the KWS
  • grants will not be issued to any applicant who is in financial arrears to, or involved in active litigation against, the City of Kitchener

We reserve the right to deny or refuse any application.

Ineligible activities

Grants will not be given for any bookings at the CCPA where the primary purpose includes any of the following:

  • for rehearsals only
  • for private production, such as filming
  • religious rentals, ceremonies, or family celebrations, such as weddings
  • private parties and events
  • academic lectures not associated with arts-based programming
  • social dances
  • corporate meetings, fundraising events, etc.
