The Queen Street corridor through the downtown is an important part of Kitchener’s history and landscape. The roadway and sidewalks of Queen Street between Duke Street and Charles Street in downtown Kitchener needed replacement due to their poor condition. As part of the work to repair Queen Street, we enhanced the streetscape and made improvements to nearby areas. One of the main objectives of the project was to create a pedestrian friendly environment and turn underused spaces into great, memorable places for people.

In August 2017, council endorsed the Queen Street Placemaking Plan, which was developed with input from the public and key stakeholders such as the downtown businesses.

The project was completed in 2020.
