Register for secure bike parking

If you ride your bike downtown, consider parking it in one of our parking garages for free. Our secure bike parking will help protect your bike from theft, vandalism and weather.

You can register online or in person to get access to our bike cages. If you have any questions, send us an email or call 519-741-2200 ext. 7314.

After you apply, we will process your application and contact you to set up a time for you to pick up your security pass from our transportation staff on the fifth floor of City Hall.

When you pick up your pass, we will collect a $10 refundable deposit. We only accept cash payment for this deposit. We will also ask to see government-issued photo ID to verify your identity.

Secure bike parking terms and conditions 
All users of the secure bicycle parking facilities must adhere to the following conditions:
  • To enter the bike cake, use your personal access card. Do not give any non-user access to the facility and do not prop or hold the entrance gate open. Ensure that the door is closed and locked each time you exit the facility.
  • The bicycle racks within the facilities operate on a first-come first-served basis. Do not claim or attempt to claim a specific bicycle parking location for a user's sole use.
  • Lock your bicycle to the racks provided and respect the other bicycles within the facility by avoiding accidental scratching or other damages. Do not remove/move or interfere with another user's bicycle and do not lock your bicycle to anything but the bicycle racks provided.
  • The facilities are designed to accommodate bicycles only and are not to be used as storage space for other personal items. Do not leave any valuables or other items within the facility. Items deemed inappropriate for the facility will be removed and disposed of at the City's discretion.
  • Do not damage or vandalize any part of the facility. Please report any theft or damage by calling 519-741-2345.
  • Please note that the secure bicycle parking policies will be reviewed annually and is subject to revision each year.
  • We are not responsible for any loss or damage to your bicycle or other personal property resulting from fire, theft or any other cause whatsoever.

CONSENT TO THE REMOVAL OF UNCLAIMED BICYCLES: Unclaimed bicycles that are in the facility longer than three weeks with no apparent activity will be removed and disposed of at the city's discretion. Users will be notified with a tag on their bicycle and through email, which will list the date when the bicycle must be removed. You agree to allow the administrators of this facility to remove your bicycle or other property according to the procedure identified above.

NOTICE OF COLLECTION STATEMENT: The personal information collected herein will be used only in connection with the administration of the secure bicycle parking facility and the issuance of access cards and will be appropriately secured in accordance with the requirements under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). How to use secure bike parking

  1. Register online or in person. Pick up your security pass at city hall.
  2. Swipe your security pass at the bike parking entrance gate to enter.
  3. Lock your bicycle to the racks provided. We recommend using a U lock and cable lock. 

As our bike parking areas are in secure parking garages, security staff monitor them regularly.

A single security pass can grant you access to five secure bike parking facilities throughout the downtown. Check the location and hours of each garage below.

Charles & Benton

  • Address: 4 Charles Street East
  • Access from: Charles Street East
  • Capacity: 30 to 40 bikes
  • Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

City Hall

  • Address: 200 King Street West
  • Access from: Young Street
  • Capacity: 20 to 30 bikes
  • Hours: 6 a.m. to midnight

Civic District

  • Address: 83 Queen Street North
  • Access from: Queen Street North or Otto Street through Centre in the Square parking lot
  • Capacity: 20 to 30 bikes
  • Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Duke & Ontario

  • Address: 33 Ontario Street North
  • Access from: Duke Street
  • Capacity: 10 to 14 bikes
  • Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Kitchener Market

  • Address: 300 King Street
  • Access from: Cedar Street
  • Capacity: 25 to 30 bikes
  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed on Sundays

Bike parking at events

If you’re heading to an event in the summer, use our free BikeCheck service to keep your bike safe. Think of BikeCheck like a coat check for your bike. We will add available events to this page. Subscribe to this page or our Bike Kitchener newsletter to get a notification when we add a new event.

How to use BikeCheck

  1. find our BikeCheck area and volunteers
  2. trade your bike for a ticket (you will need this ticket to claim your bike after the event)
  3. we will tape the matching ticket to your bike to identify it as yours
  4. a volunteer will park your bike
  5. go enjoy the event!
  6. when you’re ready to leave, give the volunteer your ticket and they will retrieve your bike

When you use BikeCheck, you can leave your accessories with your bike. Staff and volunteers will always be watching the bikes.

You must pick up your bike within 15 minutes of the event ending. For example: if the event ends at 4 p.m., you must pick up your bike before 4:15 p.m.

Terms of use

  • you MUST receive a claim stub to have your bikes and/or accessories parked by BikeCheck
  • only BikeCheck team members are allowed in the parking area
  • locks are not part of the BikeCheck system; the station is enclosed and secure
  • a valid BikeCheck claim stub must be presented to access a parked bike, or any of its accessories during or after the event
  • we are fully insured while the BikeCheck is in operation, however the accessories are left at the risk of the owner
  • bikes must be picked up 15 minutes after the event's completion or otherwise posted latest time
