Kitchener – Polls have closed across the city and Kitchener residents have had their say in determining which elected officials will serve on the city’s municipal government for the next four years. The City of Kitchener will welcome back some familiar faces come December including current Mayor, Berry Vrbanovic. Some fresh faces are slated to join city council including Christine Michaud in ward four, Margaret Johnston in ward eight and Debbie Chapman in ward nine. With all polls reported, here are the unofficial results for Kitchener:
- Mayor – Berry Vrbanovic
- Ward 1 – Scott Davey
- Ward 2 – Dave Schnider
- Ward 3 – John Gazzola
- Ward 4 – Christine Michaud
- Ward 5 – Kelly Galloway-Sealock
- Ward 6 – Paul Singh
- Ward 7 – Bil Ioannidis
- Ward 8 – Margaret Johnston
- Ward 9 – Debbie Chapman
- Ward 10 – Sarah Marsh
The new council will be officially sworn in on Dec. 3, 2018.
Voters also marked their ballots to elect the following positions:
Regional councillors representing Kitchener – Tom Galloway, Geoff Lorentz, Elizabeth Clarke, Michael D. Harris
Waterloo Region District School Board trustees – Joanne Weston, Natalie Waddell, Kathi Smith, Mike Ramsay
Waterloo Catholic District School Board trustees – Tracey Weiler, Greg Reitzel, Brian Schmalz, Kevin Dupuis
Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique MonAvenir – Dorothee Petit-Pas (acclaimed)
With neighbouring municipalities extending the closing of their polls due to technical issues, the city will not be reporting Kitchener results for the office of regional chair. The reporting of French public school board trustee results will also be delayed. The unofficial results for both offices will be posted after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
This year’s voter turnout is estimated at approximately 28 per cent.
