Kitchener, Ontario –The City of Kitchener’s new Official Plan, Kitchener 2051, continues to take shape as the community’s long-term approach to responsible growth and development. Just as they always have, Kitchener’s neighbourhoods are growing to meet the changing needs of our community members, both existing and new. The new Official Plan will set out responsible, equitable ways to accommodate this growth by offering homes for more people, plus jobs, shops, services and community spaces to meet all our needs.

Join us on Saturday, April 5 starting at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s High School for the second thought-provoking Kitchener 2051 Speaker Series event featuring Helen Kerr, an educator and leading Canadian foresight practitioner. Helen is one of the great design minds of Canada who brings together design thinking and future perspectives to look at and use ideas about the future to help us anticipate and better prepare for change and disruption.

Following the speaker event, the community is invited to participate in drop-in activities from 25 p.m.to have conversations about how and where Kitchener can grow into the future. New approaches to growth will be shared with the community and activities will ask the community to balance different trade-offs when thinking about the City’s future. Refreshments will be provided, and children’s activities will be available.

The event will also mark the start of online activities on the Kitchener 2051 Engage page, which will mirror the format of the in-person event. In addition, as a resource for those completing the online activity, a recording of the speaker session will be made available on the Kitchener 2051 Engage page.
