The City of Kitchener, in collaboration with the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC), is launching the second year of its SDG Talks speaker series this month. The series will feature 12 talks exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how we, as individuals, can help create a more socially and environmentally sustainable planet. This year’s theme, Community of Difference Makers, highlights individuals and organizations advancing environmental stewardship, community building and social entrepreneurship.
Join us for the first SDG Talks event in this year’s series on Tuesday, November 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St. W., Kitchener. The panel will focus on Goal #12, Responsible Production and Consumption. Our panel of changemakers includes representatives from local organizations making a real difference in sustainable consumerism:
- Mism: a nonprofit advocating for responsible consumerism through an exchange network of used goods. Discover how their work in community gatherings, lobbying, and partnerships with local governments drives impactful environmental change.
- LiftOff by CCAWR: an incubator and accelerator supporting Black entrepreneurs in Waterloo Region through coaching, mentorship and funding. Learn about how their “Clothing the Community” initiative promotes the reuse of clothing, reducing waste and extending product life cycles.
- Kitchener-Waterloo Library of Things: an organization offering access to seldom-used kitchen tools, kitchenware, gardening supplies and camping equipment to promote sustainable living through sharing resources.
Join us for an evening of engaging conversation, networking, and light refreshments. All are welcome to attend. We will also be accepting donations of gently used clothing items for LiftOff’s Clothing the Community initiative, which helps provide essential resources to our community.
This event is free to attend but registration is recommended. To learn more about this SDG Talk and to register, visit SDGIdeaFactory.ca.
