Neighbours Day returns to bring Kitchener residents together to celebrate their ‘Hood
Kitchener – This Saturday, June 9, thousands of Kitchener residents will come together across the city to celebrate the vibrant and diverse community they live in. Neighbours Day, in its fourth year, is an annual event that connects people and strengthens relationships through neighbourhood activities and gatherings.
Each year the number of Neighbours Day events has grown and this year is no exception with almost forty events planned across Kitchener. Nineteen of those are a Host Your Own Event (HYOE), which allows a resident or group to plan activities that would best fit their neighbourhood.
“We are thrilled with the interest in the number of residents who registered a Host Your Own Event,” said Neighbours Day committee chair, Julie Laderoute. “They have a lot of different activities planned and really bring a special feel to Neighbours Day.”
Mayor Berry Vrbanovic added, “Neighbours Day continues to grow in popularity and size every year. Residents of Kitchener are so friendly and they jump at the chance to get together and celebrate where we live and the programs that we have. It’s great to see the option to Host Your Own Event get more and more popular. It means people are taking the initiative to plan their own party and to show off their hood.”
This year HYOEs were supported by The City of Kitchener with a $200 gift card and will see activities like BBQs, picnics, an ice cream sundae party, and a movie night with food trucks at Max Becker Commons.
City-run events will be taking place at community centres and pools, the Kitchener Market and the highly anticipated reopening of Kiwanis Park.
