Canada Day is a time when many people come together to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and celebrate all our country has to offer. It’s a time to celebrate the values we aspire to as a country, while remembering the past and committing to working for a brighter future for all.
There are many things that make Canada a great country and a destination of choice for people from all over the world: the natural beauty of our landscape, our cultural diversity, our reputation for the good we have done around the world, and so much more.
This year, the City of Kitchener is excited to once again host in-person celebrations in Carl Zehr Square at City Hall. This will be the first major event held in the newly renovated square – an iconic community gathering space in downtown Kitchener.
Join us tonight for a family-friendly celebration with an awesome line-up of live music, featuring Glass Tiger, Alyssa Reid, Bad Child, and our very own Rufus John. Come out to reconnect with friends, family, and neighbours, and stay until dusk to cap off the evening with a beautiful fireworks display.
It's important to remember that Canada Day means different things to different people. For those who are celebrating, Canada Day presents an opportunity to thoughtfully examine what it means to be Canadian and understand our country’s Indigenous roots. Consider learning more about reconciliation efforts, donating to an Indigenous organization or supporting an Indigenous business or artist.
I hope to see many of you at Carl Zehr Square tonight, as we move forward together with hope and optimism for the future and gratitude for the good that exists in our country.
