The City of Kitchener’s Cycling and Trails Master Plan has officially been named the Transportation Planning Project of the Year by the Ontario Traffic Council (OTC). The award recognizes excellence in transportation planning by highlighting projects that display innovation, support sustainability and contribute to people’s quality of life.
The Cycling and Trails Master Plan is included in the City’s strategic plan after public consultation showed that people-friendly transportation is a top priority for the community. Informed by community consultation, the master plan focused on improving infrastructure that contributed to a city-wide network of cycling routes and trails suitable for people of all ages and abilities. The Cycling and Trails Master Plan also includes building a better-connected system of trails and bikeways linked to transit and key destinations.
As the city grows, expanding active transportation options that are safe and convenient for the community remains a top priority. Future investments will be guided by the Cycling and Trails Master Plan for years to come.
