Earlier this week, based on the provincewide vaccination rate and continuing improvements in key public health and health system indicators, the Government of Ontario moved the province into step one of its Roadmap to Reopen as of 12:01 a.m. this Friday, June 11, 2021.
For Kitchener residents and businesses this means beginning Friday, June 11, outdoor social gatherings and organized public events with up to 10 people are allowed. Essential and other select retail is allowed at 25 percent capacity and non-essential retail is allowed at 15 per cent capacity with no restrictions on the goods that are being sold. Outdoor dining with up to four people per table with exceptions for large households is allowed.
These changes include the following impacts to city programs and services:
City Hall counter service
- Beginning Friday, June 11 the City’s appointment booking system will be available at www.kitchener.ca. Kitchener City Hall will reopen for some in-person appointments beginning Monday, June 14. For appointment booking information visit www.kitchener.ca/bookappointment.
Outdoor pools
- Harry Class, Kiwanis Park, Idlewood and Wilson outdoor pools will all reopen on Monday, June 14 with a 25 per cent capacity. For more information and to book an outdoor pool time slot where applicable, visit www.kitchener.ca/outdoorpools.
Kitchener Market
- The Kitchener Market is still open Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning this Saturday, June 12, the piazza will also be open with seating available for dining for up to four people per table, with exceptions for larger households. For more information visit www.kitchenermarket.ca.
Wedding ceremonies
- Indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies booked at Victoria Park Pavilion and Williamsburg Dedication Centre will resume with a 15 per cent capacity indoors and outdoors with capacity limited to two metres physical distancing. Outdoor wedding receptions will be permitted up to 10 people. Indoor receptions will not be permitted. For more information visit www.kitchener.ca/wedding.
Kitchener cemeteries
- Funeral services continue with indoor limits of 15 per cent capacity up to a maximum of 50 people in the entire facility. Outdoor funeral services of up to 50 people are also permitted where 2 metres physical distancing can be maintained. For more information visit www.kitchenercemeteries.ca.
Kitchener sports fields
- Sports fields will reopen for training only with up to a maximum of 10 people with three metres physical distancing.
Community centres
- Some community centres will remain open for emergency social services such as food distribution, public access computers and addiction support. Public computers are available at Chandler Mowat, Kingsdale, Centreville Chicopee, and Victoria Hills community centres.
