KITCHENER – Beginning today, the Kitchener Market has launched a new online store making it easy to stay safe and support local by shopping online. Shop online from the comfort of your own home through the new Kitchener Market Online Store. With over 500 products available ranging from fresh produce to meats to cheeses and so much more the new online Kitchener Market Online store has everything you’ll need. The Kitchener Market Online Store is another option to support local market vendors if you prefer not to shop in-person at the market.
The Kitchener Market remains open for in-person shopping Saturdays from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Shoppers are asked to follow all public health guidelines and posted signage. The Kitchener Market Food Hall remains closed and all in-person marketplace classes, cooking events, and rentals remain cancelled or have moved online.
“The Kitchener Market is still a big part of many residents’ Saturday routine. I’m there every week and I’ve heard lots of positive feedback that the strict protocols make people feel safe to shop,” said Councillor Sarah Marsh. “For now, though, we have had to press pause on all the programming that usually make it a destination for connecting in community. I’m excited for the opportunity this new online store will offer for additional shoppers to support our local vendors. More and more people are choosing to shop online, and this will make it easier to choose local.”
Beginning today until Thursday, Feb. 4 at 12 noon, shoppers will be able to place and pay for online orders that will be ready for pick-up at the upper hall of the Kitchener Market on Saturday, Feb. 6. Customers can visit the Online Store during the regular ordering window, Saturdays from 5 p.m. through to Thursdays at 12 noon. Shoppers can browse the products by category or vendor to place one combined order to be picked up at the Market the following Saturday. All vendor payments are electronic via credit/debit, PayPal, or e-transfer. In the case of e-transfers, all transfers must be completed before pick-up. Once payment is completed, the customer will receive an emailed proof of purchase.
Pick-up will be available on the upper level of the Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – no appointment necessary. Access to the upper market hall will be available directly from the piazza off of King Street, or via the elevators and stairs from the Market parking garage. Pick up lines will be clearly marked, and all stairs and elevators have one-way protocols in place to ensure physical distancing. At the time of pick-up, online shoppers will need to show either a printed copy or the email as their proof of purchase to Market staff at the pick-up point.
“The Kitchener Market has always strived to connect the community with local vendors. With our new online shop, we’re giving market shoppers more options – to shop online or in-person,” said Kitchener Market Manager, Cameron Dale. “The new Kitchener Market Online Shop gives people who prefer not to shop in-person access to their favourite local vendors online and quick access to pick up and go.”
