The City of Kitchener is pleased to announce that applications are now open for grants to offset rental costs for the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts. Performing artists, musicians and arts and culture groups can now book space downtown Kitchener at the Conrad Centre, located at 36 King St. W. and receive funds to put toward rental costs. Last year, Kitchener approved this program to offer affordable rehearsal and performance space at the Conrad Centre to bolster the recovery of the performing arts sector.

“Kitchener recognizes the power of the performing arts. Our goal is to support the revival of live, in-person performances, which we identified as a priority in our Make It Kitchener 2.0 economic strategy,” said Mayor Vrbanovic. “As things continue to open up, the Conrad Centre will return to being a key part of our community, offering great performances and experiences to Kitchener residents and visitors.”

The Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts has been the site of everything from theatre, dance and concerts to corporate meetings and trade shows. It is also home to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, who operates the theatre and rental program.

“There is a great need for affordable rehearsal and performance spaces with so many talented artists, musicians, dancers, and performers in our community,” said Emily Robson, Manager of Arts & Creative Industries. “This grant program makes it easier for artists to develop their practice and ensures that performing arts groups and artists remain supported as they bring transformative, engaging, and exciting experiences to our community.”

The program prioritizes local performers and non-profit performing arts organizations, including theatre, dance, music, and equity-deserving applicants. All applicants must apply at least six weeks before the rental and obtain a draft rental quote from the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony before applying.
