City announces artists and details for summer events and activities
Summer festivals, events, and activities have arrived in Kitchener and residents are invited to share in the fun. Want to join? Let’s go!
“Over the past couple of years, so many of us have missed connecting with our friends and neighbours at events, enjoying live music, and celebrating at well-loved community festivals,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “This summer, we’re finally getting back to in-person fun. There's something for everyone in Kitchener from concerts and festivals to family events and neighbourhood gatherings.”
The season begins with two days of music-filled fun! Neighbours Night, a free concert on Friday, June 17 in Victoria Park, will be headlined by national recording artists Virginia to Vegas and Delaney Jane, along with special guest, Rêve. On Saturday, June 18, Neighbours Day will move the party to porches and front lawns across Kitchener as residents host performances by local artists, along with BBQs and a variety of other free community-run events. In the evening, Summer Lights Festival ignites Downtown Kitchener, celebrating the best of art, tech, dance, music, and creative experiences.
Canada Day is always one of the biggest events of the summer, and it returns to Downtown Kitchener on Friday, July 1, with lots of family-friendly fun, an evening concert, headlined by Glass Tiger and featuring Alyssa Reid, Bad Child, and Rufus John, and a beautiful fireworks display to cap off the night.
Kitchener’s biggest street party will take over downtown when Cruising on King Street rolls in on Friday, July 8. The classic vehicles will be parked in front of City Hall and on King Street, along with live entertainment.
On Saturday, July 23, the Wayback Festival will be a classic rock celebration and a trip back in time. Experience retro fun with performances from two legendary Canadian acts, Trooper and Lee Aaron.
Local families will be happy to know that our beloved Kidspark event will once again be held in Victoria Park this summer. On Sunday, August 21, enjoy lots of fun activities, games, and performances that will have the little ones laughing, learning, singing, and dancing.
In addition to big festivals and events, look out for details soon on artisan markets, movie nights, concerts, and more planned at community centres, the Kitchener Market, on Gaukel Street and throughout Downtown Kitchener. You can also enjoy some exercise and good times at the city’s golf courses, parks, walking trails, indoor and outdoor pools, and splash pads. It’s going to be a great summer… Kitchener, let’s go!
