Waterloo Region, Ontario – Kitchener Fire Department remains on scene on Sprucedale Crescent in Kitchener tonight, along with Waterloo Regional Police and officials from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal. Heavy equipment has been brought on site to assist with the forensic dismantling of the debris, as fire officials prepare to reconstruct the scene.
Residents of Sprucedale Crescent who were displaced as a precaution over the past 24 hours will be able to return to their homes this evening, with the exception of the three principal residences involved in the incident. Sprucedale Crescent will be open to residents only, via pedestrian access. The road remains closed to vehicle traffic.
Earlier today, Waterloo Regional Police (WRPS) determined the cause of the explosion to be suspicious. WRPS will lead the ongoing investigation, with the support of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and Kitchener Fire Department.
