Back to SearchKitchener, Ontario - The City of Kitchener has declared a snow event and significant weather event. Residents have until 9 p.m. to remove their parked cars from city streets. The parking ban associated with the snow event will remain in effect for 24 hours and overnight parking exemptions are cancelled during this time to allow for snow clearing. Residents are also asked to limit unnecessary travel and use extra caution when travelling or outdoors.
The City can declare a snow event when there is snowfall of 8cm or more in the forecast or accumulated. During a snow event, the City's tag-and-tow process takes effect. Residents are prohibited from parking their cars on city streets at any time when a snow event has been declared by the City. The ticket for parking on the street during a snow event is $80. Vehicles can also be towed if a maintenance vehicle is unable to get down a city street and contacts enforcement staff on patrol.
During a snow event, you can use our Getting Around map to see which roads have been recently serviced: kitchener.ca/GettingAround. The Getting Around map will be activated during a snow event and will remain live for 24 hours after the declaration has ended.
When over 20cm of snow accumulation is expected or occurring during a 24-hour period, the City can also declare a significant weather event. During a significant weather event, it may take us longer to complete snow clearing operations due to the amount of snow and other weather conditions. While a significant weather event is active, we ask that residents limit unnecessary travel and use extra caution when travelling or outdoors.
Snow events and significant weather events can be declared and cancelled separately or together depending on weather conditions.
