Residents are encouraged to keep safety in mind this Canada Day long weekend and exercise caution with private backyard fireworks displays.
Under the City of Kitchener Municipal Code, fireworks can only be set off on privately owned property before 11 p.m. on Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali. Residents must meet the setback requirements in order to set off fireworks. Fireworks cannot be set off on City-owned lands, parks or schoolyards. Fireworks cannot be sold to or set off by anyone under 18.

Some city facilities have modified hours over the Canada Day long weekend:
City Hall
Kitchener City Hall will be closed during the Canada Day long weekend, including Monday, July 3.
Kitchener Market
The Kitchener Market is open for the farmers’ market on Saturday, July 1, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The market will be closed as usual on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3.
Community centres
Most community centres are closed on Saturday, July 1. Downtown Community Centre is open on Saturday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All community centres are closed on Sunday, July 2.
Most community centres are closed on Monday, July 3. Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre is open on Monday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Pools and splashpads
City of Kitchener splashpads and these pools are open throughout the holiday weekend:

Update for June 30, 2023: Idlewood outdoor pool will be open regular hours on July 3, 2023.
Idlewood outdoor pool is closed for repairs and will re-open on Tuesday, July 4.

Kitchener Public Library
All Kitchener Public Library (KPL) locations are closed on Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2. All KPL locations are open on Monday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Kitchener Golf
Doon Valley and Rockway golf courses are open on Monday, July 1. Visit kitchenergolf.ca to book a tee time.
The Aud and community arenas
The Aud and community arenas, including the Lyle S. Hallman walking track at Activa, will be closed on Saturday, July 1. The walking track will be open:
- Sunday, July 2: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Monday, July 3: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
All other community arenas and The Aud are open for scheduled rentals only on July 2 and 3.
Budd Park
Budd Park indoor soccer facility will be open for scheduled rentals during the Canada Day long weekend.
