Back to SearchKITCHENER – The City of Kitchener is bringing camps to kids with activities for them to do right in their own homes or local parks this summer.
Do-it-yourself summer programs offer families fun activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being in social settings they’re comfortable with. Rent-a-Camp-Counsellor, Camp in a Box, and virtual summer camps are activities families can do on their own time and at their own pace.
“We understand some families are hesitant to reintegrate their children in certain social settings this summer. So, we’re bringing the fun to you,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “These programs are just some of the many ways we’ve been supporting children and youth in our community throughout the pandemic. We are trying to give children a sense of normalcy during what’s been an unusual summer for them.”
Rent-a-Camp-Counsellor is currently available for registration and city camp leaders run an interactive, fun, and entertaining camp for two hours for up to eight children between the ages of four and 11. Staff bring the supplies and activities for a nature, sport, or variety themed program at a parent/guardian selected location. Rent-a-Camp Counsellor is available Tuesdays and Thursdays until Sept. 1.
Camp in a Box offers families four exciting options that bring classic camp programming right into their home. Families can choose between a Super Science Box, an Amazing Art Box, a Neat Nature Box, or a Creative Combo Box. Each activity box contains all materials and instructions needed for 10 projects that will challenge children to think outside the box.
Virtual Summer Camp gives children live interactive instruction on any electronic device led by two trained City camp leaders on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the morning or afternoon. Campers participate in games and physical activities from the comfort of their own home.
“The summer months are supposed to offer fun experiences for children in our community,” said Ward 5 Councillor Kelly Galloway-Sealock. “Staff have carefully chosen interactive and sensory activities that kids will enjoy doing with their families or friends. These types of programs ensure kids will get the physical, mental, and emotional stimulation they need during the summer.”
Parents or guardians can register for Rent-a-Camp-Counsellor and virtual summer camp, and purchase a Camp in a Box using ActiveNet, the City’s online registration portal at www.kitchener.ca/ActiveNet. City summer day camp spots are also still available.
