Earlier this year, the City of Kitchener joined the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ new Youth Climate Action Fund to activate young people in driving climate solutions. Kitchener will receive $50,000 USD to distribute as microgrants to fund youth-led climate initiatives as part of the program.
Applications will open Friday, June 14 and close on Wednesday, July 31 at 4 p.m. Successful candidates will receive funds in fall 2024, and projects/initiatives will be required to be complete by the end of 2024.
Eligible applications and projects are required to be:
- Led by youth ages 15-24,
- Kitchener-serving,
- A formally incorporated organization (with a bank account to receive funds) or be a youth-led team partnered with a fiscal sponsor. The City of Kitchener has partnered with the GreenHouse social impact incubator at the University of Waterloo to support youth climate action through the entire grant application and project process.
- Supportive of Kitchener’s climate action priorities.
The City in partnership with our Youth Climate Action Fund partner, GreenHouse, will also be hosting workshops that can help eligible applicants develop their project proposals and grant applications. To learn more register to attend one of the upcoming workshops:

- Learn more about the grant, dive deep into our community climate action plan, and brainstorm possible projects that might be a good fit for funding.
- How to apply workshops
- Wednesday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to noon, online
- Wednesday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 24 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St. W.
These sessions will walk applicants through the grant application, help develop strong answers in line with the evaluation rubric and cover some general tips and tricks for successful grant applications.
