The City of Kitchener, Kitchener Public Library and Grand River Film Festival invite filmmakers between the ages of 12 and 25 to submit their creative works to the annual Youth Video Contest. Youth from across Waterloo Region with a passion for filmmaking, production, acting, and screenwriting are encouraged to challenge their creativity and storytelling skills by entering a short film of any genre, up to three minutes in length, into the juried competition.

Winning submissions will be selected by a jury of industry professionals, film enthusiasts and artists based on their technical and artistic merits. All submissions must meet the criteria and copyright guidelines. Up to two $300 cash prizes will be awarded in each of the three age categories (Ages 12-14, Ages 15-17, and Ages 18-25) for six total cash prizes and up to ten honourable mentions. The winners will also have their films screened at the Grand River Film Festival.

A free, in-person information session will be held this Saturday, Jan. 14, from 1-2 p.m. at the Kitchener Public Library, 85 Queen Street North. Local film producers Luke Villemaire and Sara Geidlinger will share their experiences, offer inspiration, and answer filmmaking questions. City and film festival staff will be available to explain the online submission process, how winning films are chosen, access to helpful resources and the screening of winning films. Registration is required.
