Let’s start thinking about the summer – apply for a job at a City of Kitchener summer camp or youth program!

If the cold, snowy winter has you and your family down, the City of Kitchener wants you to start thinking about summer! The City has begun planning its summer programs for children and youth and they’ve launched a hiring campaign – offering fun jobs that give great experience for young people interested in working with kids.

There are almost 200 positions being offered across the City’s summer camp and youth programs, giving young people aged 15-24 a variety of opportunities. Know a teen looking for a job? They could work as a camp leader at the City’s day camps for kids aged 4-13, supported by senior camp coordinators – it’s a great way to gain experience at a first job in a fun environment. Young adults or university students looking for a role could work as a youth leader, leading the City’s weekly recreational programming for teens.

Not sure if these jobs are right for you? The feedback that we hear from the young people we’ve employed speaks for itself.

“I would tell anyone thinking of working for camps to go for it – no one ever regrets it,” says camp leader Aliyah Henriquez. “You make new friends, make great relationships with kids and there’s always new learning experiences. You should try it out!”

The thing that makes these roles special is the fun and relaxed environment – you get to work with other people your own age, running sports, arts and games programming for kids!

Depending on your role and the program you’re supporting, you’ll get to see the impact an enriching experience can have on kids over the course of a single summer!

“My favourite thing about working for camps is working with kids and seeing how they grow and develop over the course of the summer,” says camp leader Melissa Amaya Diaz.

Our different roles close at different times over the next several weeks, so make sure to get your application in today.  We’re also hiring for a variety of summer student jobs in our parks and sports teams. To learn more and explore our summer job opportunities visit www.kitchener.ca/jobs
