Community centres have reopened for select programs

The Region of Waterloo passed a bylaw requiring the wearing of face coverings in enclosed public spaces that is now in effect. You can learn more about the bylaw and what it means for you on the Region of Waterloo site.

Beginning Friday, Nov. 27, the Province has provided updated guidance on the limits for recreation facilities and community centres. These changes include:

  • Indoor capacity of 10 program participants per room/space, provided physical distancing can be maintained. 
  • Outdoor capacity of 25 program participants per space, provided physical distancing can be maintained.

Victoria Hills Community Centre has reopened for select registered programs.  

Victoria Hills Community Centre is situated in a beautiful park setting, at the corner of Westmount Road and Chopin Drive. The centre features meeting rooms, gymnasiums, a servery and a kitchen, public-access computers and an outdoor skating rink in the winter.

All programming, including drop-in programming now requires registration. To register for programs, please visit ACTIVE Net.
 Safety measures 
For your safety, the following procedures are in place at Victoria Hills: 
  • Access control: Public access will be controlled and limited to patrons who are registered for programs or have scheduled activities such as the use of public access computers or use of the gymnasium through the Book your Bubble program. Visitors are asked to come prepared to participate in scheduled programming as access to changerooms will be unavailable.
  • Pre-screening questions: Visitors will be required to successfully complete a series of health screening questions prior to entry.
  • Masks and face coverings: Visitors are required to wear masks upon entry and while in common areas such as lobbies, hallways or washrooms.
  • Physical distancing: Visitors are always required to maintain a physical distance of at least 2-meters from other patrons.

Cherry Park Neighbourhood Association

The Cherry Park Neighbourhood Association offers a variety of programs and special events at various locations. Programs are offered spring, fall and winter.

Community Partners' programs

Our centre partners with local organizations to provide free programs and information to our community, including:

  • WMB Church - Free conversational 'Learn English, Make Friends' program:

  • Free online adult English conversation classes begin Sept. 15 until June 2021, on Tuesdays 9:30-10:30 a.m., and on Thursdays 7-8 p.m. To register contact Mary Ellen Tierney at 519.590.0551 | maryellentierney@wmbchurch.ca.

  • CPNA ESL Book Club is running once a month on the second Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m., registration is required at the front desk. 

  • Newcomer Families Learning Together: is a fun free program for parents and children age birth to 4 years who are newcomers to Canada. It is to help parents get children ready for school and to share fun learning activities to do at home with their child, led by parent volunteer leaders. The program for the fall of 2020 will be online due to Covid-19. It is our priority to keep families safe.

     Families can register by calling 519-570-3054 Tuesday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Victoria Hills Neighbourhood Association: Are you willing to give back to the community? Do you need volunteer hours or extra experience? Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to attend our monthly meetings. 
  • Cycle Into The Future: What if cycling made our world a better place? Cycle Into The Future encourages youth and children to learn road rules, fix flat tires and practice essential bike skills. Program will be running at Victoria Hills Community Center parking lot starting October 5th-November 2nd from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Sign up through registering online at http://www.cyclingintothefuture.com/programregistration. This program is for Grade 4 and up and will not be running on Oct. 19,20
