Ward 5

Headshot of Councillor Galloway-Sealock

In office: 2006 - present

Kelly Galloway-Sealock was first elected to Kitchener City Council in 2006. During her four terms in office, Kelly has worked closely with neighbourhood associations in the ward she represents and was very active in the formation of the Williamsburg Community Association and securing a location for the Williamsburg Community Centre.

Kelly was instrumental in obtaining the funding for McLennan Park that enabled the park to be completed five years ahead of schedule. Her passion for parks and trails has been evident through her involvement with the Parks & Open Spaces Master Plan, the Multiuse Pathways & Trails Master Plan and most recently the South District Park Master Plan, now known as RBJ Schlegel Park. Kelly has also worked with staff at the city and the development community to get parks built in the first stage of new neighbourhoods.

Kelly has held a number of leadership roles on council, serving as Chair of the Community and Infrastructure Services Committee and Vice Chair of Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee. Currently, Kelly is the Chair of the Community and Infrastructure Services Committee. Kelly is also engaged at the national level, having sat on various Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Standing Committees, including the Standing Committee for Increasing Women's Participation in Municipal Government. Kelly also had the opportunity to take her knowledge abroad through FCM partnerships in Kumasi, Ghana and Morogoro, Tanzania. She taught the importance of public engagement, how to hold community meetings, how to reach out to constituents and helped run focus groups to create an economic development strategy.

Kelly is a strong advocate for women and girls, recently hosting her second annual UN International Day of the Girl Child awareness event. Kelly also feels passionately about accessibility issues, having previously worked with developmentally disabled adults through a local agency.

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology and Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University. Kelly and her husband Trevor are proud parents to their sons Callan, Tyson and Logan.
