Please see filing requirements, deadlines and penalties for municipal candidates and registered third party advertisers to file Financial Statements. The Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, requires all election campaign periods for all offices to begin on the day she or he files a nomination for the office. Candidates were not permitted to spend or raise money for their election until they had filed their nomination. Money, goods and services given to or accepted by a candidates, or on behalf of a candidate, for their election campaign are considered contributions. Candidates are only entitled to receive a refund of the nomination filing fee if their financial statement is submitted by the required deadline. |
